General & Company
Propane Reservoirs is a propane tank dealership based in The Nation, Ontario, supplying, installing, and servicing residential and commercial propane tanks throughout Eastern Ontario. We help homeowners, farms, and businesses choose the right tank size, get it installed to code, and keep it filled reliably year-round.
We are based at 5552 Ste-Catherine St, The Nation, ON, and serve surrounding communities across Eastern Ontario. Call (506) 805-1354 with your address or postal code and we'll confirm right away whether you're inside our service area.
Both. We supply and install new above-ground and underground propane tanks, and we also arrange ongoing propane delivery and refills for the tanks we install. It's a single point of contact from your first tank to your next fill-up.
Tank Sizes & Options
Common residential and commercial tank sizes include 120-gallon (vertical), 320/325-gallon, 420-gallon, 500-gallon, and 1,000-gallon tanks, available in above-ground or underground configurations. The right size depends on what you're heating or powering — a furnace, water heater, fireplace, generator, or full-property heating system — and your household or facility's typical usage.
Tell us your home size, appliances, and heating needs and we'll recommend the correct capacity.
Above-ground tanks cost less to install, are easier to access for inspection and gauge readings, and are the more common choice. Underground tanks stay hidden from view, which some homeowners prefer for landscaping or aesthetics, but they require excavation and typically cost more to install and maintain. We'll walk you through the trade-offs based on your property and budget.
As a general guide:
- 120-gallon: a single appliance, such as a fireplace, range, or standby generator.
- 320–500-gallon: whole-home heating, water heating, and multiple appliances in an average-sized house.
- 1,000-gallon: larger homes, farms, or properties with high seasonal heating demand.
These are starting points, not a substitute for a proper load assessment — our team will confirm the correct size for your property before installation.
Buying, Leasing & Ownership
Owning your tank means no monthly rental fee, the freedom to shop propane suppliers for the best delivered price, and the tank is yours as a property asset. Leasing typically has a lower upfront cost but ties you to one supplier and includes an ongoing rental fee. We sell tanks outright and can explain both paths so you can choose what fits your budget and long-term plans.
No. When you own your tank outright, you're free to choose your propane supplier. That said, most of our customers stay with us for delivery because we already know their tank, their system, and their property — and it keeps everything under one point of contact.
In many cases, yes — an existing tank can be relocated on your property or, depending on its age and condition, transferred to a new site. Every tank needs to be inspected first to confirm it's safe and code-compliant to move. Call us with your tank's size and approximate age and we'll advise on next steps.
Installation & Safety
A standard above-ground tank installation is typically completed within a day once the site is prepared and permits (where required) are in place. Underground installations take longer due to excavation, backfill, and inspection requirements. We'll give you a firm timeline once we've assessed your site.
Requirements vary by tank size, location, and municipality. Propane installations in Ontario must meet TSSA (Technical Standards and Safety Authority) regulations and applicable fire and building codes. Our installers handle code compliance and any required documentation as part of the installation process, so you don't have to navigate it alone.
Required clearances from buildings, property lines, windows, and ignition sources depend on tank size and are set by TSSA and national fire codes. Our team calculates the correct placement for your specific tank and property during the site assessment — you never have to guess at code requirements.
Yes. Propane tanks are built to strict manufacturing and safety standards, and every tank we install meets current TSSA and national code requirements. Tanks include pressure relief valves and safety shut-offs by design. Routine inspection, correct clearances, and professional installation are what keep a propane system safe over its lifetime — all of which we handle.
If you smell propane (a strong, sulphur-like or "rotten egg" odour):
- Do not turn any switches, appliances, or open flames on or off.
- Leave the area immediately and get everyone else out too.
- Do not re-enter the building or start your vehicle nearby.
- From a safe distance, call your propane supplier and, if you suspect a serious leak, call 911.
This is general safety guidance only — always follow instructions from your local fire department and propane supplier.
Propane Delivery & Refills
It depends on your tank size, what you're running on propane (just a stove, or full home heating), and the season. Homes using propane for heat generally need more frequent deliveries in winter. Once your tank is installed, we can set up scheduled or automatic delivery so you're never caught guessing your levels.
We can arrange automatic delivery based on your typical usage and the season, so refills happen before you're at risk of running low. If you'd rather monitor your own gauge and call when you need a fill, that's available too — whichever works better for your household or business.
Running a tank completely dry can allow air and moisture into the system and may require a full safety inspection and re-lighting of appliances by a qualified technician before service is restored — which can mean delays. This is exactly why we recommend scheduled or automatic delivery, so your tank never hits empty. If you do run out, call us and we'll get you back up and running safely.
Pricing, Payment & Financing
Tank pricing depends on size, above-ground vs. underground, and site-specific installation requirements (site prep, gas line runs, permits). Because every property is different, we provide a firm, itemized quote after a quick assessment rather than a one-size-fits-all number. Call (506) 805-1354 for a free quote.
Please see our Payment Policy page for accepted payment methods, or call our team directly and we'll walk you through current options.
Ask our team about current financing or payment plan options when you request your quote — availability can depend on the size and scope of the installation. Call (506) 805-1354 and we'll let you know what's available.
